Who we are
Letters for the Environment Central Australia (LECA) is a grassroots letter writing and advocacy group based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs).
All LECA members, including administrators, are local volunteers.
What we do
We provide a platform for community members to communicate their concerns about environmental issues to those in positions of power and influence.
Foundation Positions
These positions guide all of our work.
They are critical to helping us make decisions that are predictable and consistent.
1. Zero tolerance for animal cruelty
2. No clearing or re-clearing of native vegetation
3. No expansion of extractive industrial activity
4. Respect traditional First Nations knowledge and rigorous science
How the group works
1. An environmental concern is raised
2. The issue is investigated
3. The issue is summarised in a 1-2 page case card
4. Letter writing tips and / or colouring templates are prepared
5. These resources are distributed online and in hard copy ‘letter writing kits’ at local cafes
NB: Letters for the Environment Central Australia campaigns are carefully researched. LECA respects traditional First Nations knowledge and rigorous science. We do not use AI to research, write or edit our content. We are an independent ‘grass roots’ community group – we are not affiliated with any organisation, we do not apply for, or accept any external funding.
